Routine E-Waste Management for a Katy Independent School District Campus

The Problem

A large high school within the Katy Independent School District generates a continuous stream of electronic waste, including broken tablets, outdated smartboards, malfunctioning projectors, and old administrative computers. Previously, the IT department was forced to stockpile equipment in a storage closet until funding could be secured for a paid disposal service. This created a safety hazard, consumed valuable space, and left student and staff data on unprocessed hard drives.

Our Solution

Free E-Waste Pickup Houston partnered with the school's IT department to establish a routine, scheduled pickup program. We provided designated collection bins to safely store broken electronics as they accumulated on campus. Each quarter, our team schedules a weekday pickup to empty the bins and remove any larger items such as projectors and desktop computers. All data-bearing devices including administrative hard drives undergo secure data destruction to protect student and staff information in compliance with FERPA.
